How to Install Windchill 13 with SQL Server 2022 - Part 2: Java, LDAP, and SQL Server Setup

For Part 2, we are going to walk through installing and configuring Amazon Corretto (Java), OpenDJ (LDAP), and SQL Server (Database).

Install Amazon Corretto

Nothing special here.  Run through the installation wizard.  I am leaving the installation location as default but one thing you should make note of is that it gets installed in a subfolder with the full version in it's name.  Windchill refers to this folder in some properties so if you want to update Java, the folder will change and Windchill will need to have some properties updated for it to work.

Install OpenDJ

1. Run the installer for OpenDJ.
   1. Click Run anyway if Windows gives you problems.
2. Click Next.
3. Choose an install location.  I prefer it to be on the same drive as the Windchill install.
4. Click Install.
5. Click Finish.
6. After the install, go to the OpenDJ folder and run setup.bat.
7. Click Next.
8. I have changed the Root User DN to cn=Manager because that is how it was on the original Windchill Directory Server.
9. Leave This will be a stand alone server checked.  Click Next.
10. Change the Directory Base DN to o=<your company name> and select Only Create Base Entry...
11. Leave Use Default for both options.  Click Next.
12. Select Run the server as a Windows Server and click Finish.
13. Confirm a successful setup and click Close.
14. Go to the <OpenDJ install location>/bat/control-panel.bat.  Make a shortcut to this on your desktop.  Run the file.
15. Login as cn=Manager or whatever you chose previously.
16. Click on Manage Entries under Directory Data on the left.
17. You should just see one entry (o=<your company name>).

Install SQL Server

1. Mount the ISO image and click setup.exe.
2. Go to Installation, click New SQL Server standalone installation...
3. Enter your product key or select Evaluation.  Developer edition is not supported but I think it will work.
4. Accept the terms.  Sign your life away.
5. Allow Microsoft Update to check for updates.
6. Fix any failed tests. The warning in my steps is just about the firewall but it doesn't matter because we are doing a monolithic installation.
7. Uncheck Azure Extension for SQL Server and click Next.
8. Select Database Engine Services and Full-Text and Semantic Extractions for Search.  You can change the directories if you want but I leave them as the default since we won't be storing the datafiles in the installation location.  You can select more features if you want.  The two I have selected are the required bare minimum.
9. I will leave it as the default instance but you can use a named instance also.
10. Change the Startup Type to be Automatic for everything that is possible.
11. Go to Collation tab, click Customize.
12. Choose Latin1_General_100, select Case-sensitive, Accent-sensitive, and Supplementary characters. Click OK.
13. Confirm that Latin1_General_100_CS_AS_SC shows up and click Next.
14. Select Mixed Mode. 
    1. Create a password for the sa account.  Make sure it passes the default Windows password requirements. Windchill will fail to install if the password does not meet the requirements.  It is something like 12 characters, upper and lowercase, number, special character, no key words.
    2. Click Add Current User.  Add any other users you want.
    3. I don't touch anything else typically but it is okay if you want to do something on the other tabs.
15. Review the summary and click Install.
16. Confirm successful installation.  Click Close.
17. Run the SQL Server Management Studio setup file (SSMS-Setup-ENU.exe).
    1. Pick a location.  I left it as default.  Click Install.
18. Restart when it asks.
19. Open SQL Server Management Studio.
    1. Change Encryption dropdown to Optional.
    2. Login with sa.
20. Right click on the Server in the Object Explorer pane -> Properties.
    1. Go to Advanced section.
       1. Set Enable Contained Databases to True.
    2. Go to Memory section.
       1. Set min and max memory to half of your computers total memory.  Since mine is 32 GB, I will set the values to 16 GB in MB i.e. 16 * 1024 = 16384.
    3. Click OK.
